How To Check NHIF Status

National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) is established under cap 255 of the laws of Kenya. The fund is established to provide for contributions to and the payment of benefits out of the Fund, to establish the National Hospital Insurance Fund Management Board and for connected purposes.

Contributions to NHIF is compulsory for all employed employees and optional for those in self service. Due to the reforms carried out at the fund with extensive coverage and provision of services in areas which were never traditional for NHIF, many people in the private sector have joined the fund and make regular payments.

NHIF has expanded the type of diseases that can be treated using the card to include cancer, diabetes and other terminal illnesses. There are instances where NHIF will pay for medical expenses outside the country.

Once you join NHIF, you need to keep your contributions up to date to ensure you do not get problems when you see medical help. There are several ways to check your contribution status.
