How to Register on the UON Student portal

1. For new students joining the university and without a registration number, the application Reference No. is used. 

2. You will enter the reference number at the box appearing below the login details to be allocated registration number. 

3. Click on “Get Allocated Registration Number” to get your allocated student registration number

4. Follow the instructions to complete the registration process.

UoN Student Portal Login

Click the button above to login to the student portal. You can type the portal web address, https://smis.uonbi.ac.ke/ to access the login interface. 

Step 1: Enter your university registration number in full. Ensure you enter the numbers and digits correctly. C01 is Zero no letter O wile I20 is letter I not digit 1

Step 2: Enter the password

Step 3: Click enter. 

How to Change UoN Student Portal Password

If you forget the password to your UoN student portal account, don’t worry. You need to click the forgot password button on the home page of the portal.

You will be prompted to enter your registration number and the email address that you used when registering. 

An email with the link to change password will be emailed to you. Click the link and follow the instructions to change the password.

1. Student Fees

Here you will view a ledger showing what is due on the registered courses, what has been paid and what is outstanding or is overpaid. It also contains instructions on how to pay the fees and the bank accounts to pay. 

2. Time Tables

You will be able to to see the class timetable for the units you have registered. You will also see the examination timetable and any other important events timetable.

3. Course Registration

Here you will be able to see courses on offer and choose which ones to register for. This is a key step in order for you to undertake studies at the university. You will be denied entry into a class where you have not registered for the course. 

4. Results

These are the results of continuous assessment tests (CATs), main exam, term papers, projects and any other examinable aspect of your course. You will be able to print the provisional result slip from the portal.

5. Enquiries

Make enquiries on missing marks, incomplete results, and exam queries through the portal.

6. Room Booking

You will only be able to book and be allocated a hostel room from the student portal. Choose the hall where you will be residing, view available rooms and book to pay the room. 

7. Change Password

When you want to change the password to a more user friendly password. Remember to make you password secure by using alpha numeric characters to enhance security and avoid hacking. 

8. Student ID 

Apply for the student ID through the portal. Exam cards will also be accessed and be printed from the portal. You will not be allowed into the exam hall without the student exam card. 

9. Inter Faculty Transfers

This is especially useful for new students who would wish to do transfer from the courses they were admitted in to new courses. This maybe within the same faculty, between different campuses but all within University of Nairobi. 

10. Clearance

Once you are through with your studies, you will be able to do clearance through the portal. You will not be on the graduation list if you have not cleared with all relevant departments of the university. 

11. Caution Refund

Every student upon joining the university is supposed to pay caution money. This money is supposed to stand in for any eventualities during the stay at the university. Upon completeion of the course, you will be required to claim the caution money. This can only e done through the student portal. 

12. Academic Tracking

This will involve tracking your progress at the university. The portal will show the units to be covered in the degree programe, what you have done and what is remaining. It will show all units passed, those failed and will give consent to proceed to next level. 

13. Student Email

University of Nairobi sends all communication to staff and students via UoN email. Students are also mandated to use UoN emails to submit their assignments, create mail groups, share online documents/projects, and to chat. To create an email account, you will need to create it in the Student Portal
