M-pesa is a digital currency account just like a bank account. It involves movement of cash in and out of the digital wallet. Just like with bank account, you need an M-pesa statement to help you in planning and tracing your funds movement.

Safaricom, the operators of M-pesa, do not give out the statement automatically, but you can always opt to be getting the statement periodically. You need to register to receive the statement online in soft copy. The statement can be mini statement or full statement. M-pesa statement is a legally recognized statement and has been used in courts in Kenya.

How To Get M-pesa Mini Statement

A mini statement from M-pesa shows the last few transactions done through M-pesa. You can choose last 5 transactions or a date range. To access the mini statement follow these steps

  1. Dial *234#
  2. Select  5; M-pesa information
  3. Select 1; M-pesa statement
  4. Select 1; Request statement
  5. You can select 0; last 5 transactions, 1;Full statement , 2 Summary statement.
  6. You will need to input your ID or passport number that you used to register the line with. You will also need a valid email address that you can access where the statement will be sent to.
  7. When you select summary statement, you will be taken to a window where you will select the time range. You can select last month, last 3 months, last 6 months, last 12 months, last 2 years or you specify the period that you want the statement for.
  8. You will receive an SMS with the details of where the statement will be sent. If you select the last 5 transactions, you will receive an SMS with the last 5 transactions. Any statement bigger than that will be sent via email.

How To Download M-pesa Statement

Once you request the M-pesa statement that is more than the last 5 transactions, it will be sent via the email. The attached statement is password protected to prevent the statement from falling into the wrong hands.

To access the statement, you need to enter the ID number, passport number, alien ID, Diplomatic ID or Military ID that you used to register your M-pesa account with.

How To Get M-pesa Statement Online

You can access your M-pesa statement by accessing the safaricom self care center. You can access selfcare through the safaricom website www.safaricom.co.ke. Here is how to get the M-pesa statement from the self-care portal;

  1. On the self-care tab, you need to choose the kind of registration you need to do.
  2. Select individual for personal use.
  3. Enter your mobile number and username
  4. Agree to the terms and condition of service.
  5. A message will be sent to your phone with a code that you will enter to complete the registration process.
  6. You will receive a message confirming your registration
  7. Once logged in, select the time which you need the statement for. Note that this time will only be for 6 months. For a statement beyond six months, use the USSD code *234#.

How To Get M-pesa Statement From Safaricom M-ledger

M-ledger is an app from Safaricom that captures and scans your m-pesa messages and creates a database from the messages to generate a statement. If your phone has limited M-pesa statement, you will also likely get a brief statement.

Get the M-ledger app from google play store.

From the app you will get;

  • The last 6 months transactions,
  • The current M-pesa balance,
  • Calculates the cost of M-pesa transactions,
  • A summary of all cash in and out of your M-pesa account for a selected period of time
  • A summary of transaction per person or business,
  • Top 20 recipients and senders of M-pesa to your account
  • A summary of transaction type totals; airtime, Paybills, buy goods, deposits, withdrawals
  • Backup up the data in cloud
  • Presents data in graphs and charts
