It is an offence to drive am motor vehicle in Kenya without a valid driving license. According to traffic Act cap 403, section 30 (1) states that ”No person shall drive a motor vehicle of any class on a road unless he is the holder of a valid driving license or a provisional license endorsed in respect of that class of vehicle.”

Section 30 (7) states that ”Any person who contravenes or fails to comply with this section shall be guilty of an offence and liable—

(a) on first conviction to a fine not exceeding twenty thousand shillings or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three months; 

(b) on each subsequent conviction to a fine not exceeding thirty thousand shillings or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or to both such fine and imprisonment

You do not want to be caught on the wrong side of the law, you need to have a valid driving license.

How To Check Driving License Validity Using E-citizen

Step 1: Log into the ecitizen portal.

Step 2: Go to the NTSA services.

Step 3: Check license listing.

Step 4: You can verify if the details on the hard copy are matching those of the soft copy.

Step 5: If the details are correct, you will have successful results. If not, you will be denied access.

How To Check Driving License Validity Using TIMS Account

You can verify the validity of your driving license through the NTSA TIMS account. If you do not have one, you can follow this guide to register for TIMS account. Once registered, follow the steps to login to TIMS and check the DL status.

Step 1: Log in to the TIMS account

Step 2: The account will verify the name and number of holder

Step 3: The expiry date should be similar with the one on the driving licence. If not, the driving licence is invalid.

NTSA has an app available at google play store that can be used to verify and check the validity of the driving license.
Step 1: Download the NTSA mobile

Step 2: App Log in

Step 3: Enter your ID number in the driving license section

Step 5: Wait for a confirmation message from NTSA, the message will appear as ‘Valid’ or ‘Invalid’

How To Check Driving License Validity Using SMS

You can verify the validity of your driving license using the NTSA short code 22846.

Create a new message with the body starting with DL followed by the ID number of the driver and then send the message to 22846. The word ID and the number should not have space between them e.g ID12345678.

You will receive a confirmation message from NTSA with all the details of the DL.

How To Check Driving License Validity Visiting Huduma Centre or NTSA offices

You can go to any Huduma centre with your DL to verify its validity. You can also visit any NTSA offices country wide to verify the license. The license number is run through the data base and a feedback given on the validity of the license.
